The Property
Exclusive, Designer French Farmhouse in Bordeaux, France
Open the door to a haven of modern design inside a 19th century French farmhouse. Nestled between two medieval villages in the heart of a foodie region of France, La Maison Haute Couture is an exclusive hilltop retreat that offers the comfortable ambience of an old family home fused with a stylish interior and bespoke service.
- Style: Set on three floors, the house blends traditional features with cutting-edge design. Think wood floors, moon-shaped sofas, Grandfather clocks and funky wallpaper.
- Bedrooms: Five bedrooms – four doubles and one twin – each with a unique design feature. The master bedroom, a double with terracotta flooring, a bathtub and additional shower en suite, is based on the lower ground floor, with French doors leading out to a sitting area on the edge of the grounds.
- Bathrooms: There are 3 ensuite bedrooms and a family bathroom. All the bathrooms have complementary Kiehl’s beauty products.
- For relaxation: Soak away stresses and strains in the huge bath overlooking the sunflower fields; take a sunset stroll in the cherry and plum orchards.
- For recreation: Ensconce yourself in the 1600 square-feet attic living room space and pick a Penguin Classic or one of the vintage board games from the corner library, or chill out in front of the flat-screen TV.
Outside
Perched on a hilltop, the farmhouse has five acres of landscaped gardens. Watch the sun go down behind the cherry and plum orchards and breathe the delicate aroma of lavender and rosemary; kick back in the alfresco barbecue area – complete with Weber BBQ and outdoor Mecano dining table and chairs; chill out by the pool on a Californian sun lounger. (The private pool area is gated and surrounded by a stone wall, making it safe for children). For a unique experience and breathtaking views to the sunflower fields, sink into a huge open-air bath sunk into the ancient floor of an outbuilding.
Food and wine
Available on a self-catering or fully catered basis, according to your requirements.
- DIY: The well-equipped kitchen and dining areas offer spacious facilities where you can prepare and enjoy the bounty of France's celebrated gastronomic hub. Natural wood and stone features are combined with modern appliances and a steel worktop, creating an old farmhouse feel with all mod cons. Every guest will arrive to a basket of local produce – including bread, milk, juice and cheese – from the local organic market. The market, just a 10-minute drive from the house, is the oldest in France.
- In-house cuisine: Home-cooked meals are available, with a local chef preparing food at the house or off-site, according to needs and wishes of the guests. Any special requirements (dietary, celebration cakes etc) can be arranged in advance.
- Eating out: Recommended restaurants in the area include Maison Sur La Place, Penne.www.lamaisonsurlaplace.com, Restaurant de la Toque Blanch, Pujols, 10 minutes away (Tel 05 53 49 00 30) and Aubergade, Puymirol 30 minutes away(www.aubergade.com).
